Volunteerism is a core value of Judaism, as it reflects the principle of tikkun olam, or repairing the world. This concept teaches us that we have a moral obligation to partner with God in improving the world and alleviating suffering. As a Jew, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to contribute to the well-being of my community and society at large. I am involved in various activities that allow me to express my Jewish identity and values, such as Fairmount Temple and amateur radio. Fairmount Temple is a Reform congregation that offers many opportunities for social action, education, and spiritual growth. Amateur radio is a hobby that connects me with other enthusiasts around the world, and also enables me to provide emergency communication services in times of need. I am also inspired by my grandfather Walter Ohlmann, who was a prominent Jewish leader and philanthropist in Dayton, Ohio. He founded a successful advertising agency and used his skills and resources to support many Jewish and non-religious causes, such as education, health care, arts, and human rights. His legacy encourages me to give back to both Jewish and non-religious causes, and to make a positive difference in the world.
